Do you need a license to do lash lifting?

In Illinois in order to perform lash lifting treatments you must meet these requirements:

  1. Hold a license in Esthetics or Cosmetology

  2. Be enrolled in an Esthetics or Cosmetology Program

  3. Be proficient in the procedure

You will want to take a course from a reputable academy that is approved by IDFPR in Illinois. Anyone training without this does not guarantee a well-thought-out or well-planned course. We are an IDFPR sponsor.

Most beauty professionals get confused when it comes to the difference between being Licensed or Certified so let's clear that up!

A license is required to legally work as a lash artist in most states in the U.S. Governing bodies in the beauty sector award licenses. The most common licenses in this sector are for cosmetology, esthetics, barbering, massage therapy, and nail technician. Different states have different governing bodies and regulations.

A certification is additional training to perfect your art in a particular domain. It is usually given by private companies or continuing education academies with an excellent reputation in the industry.

If you are a beauty professional that wants to offer this service with a complete understanding of the service down to consent forms we suggest getting lash lift certified.

Before you become lash lift certified, know that most US states require you to be licensed before you’re legally allowed to do lash lifts including the state of Illinois. If you live in one of these states, the process is first to get licensed (to work within the law) and then get certified (to perfect your lash lifting protocol).
